This is a great class to run periodically as we can all use the reset button from time to time. Ensure that you include a longer seated meditation at the end for a longer chance of reflection and opportunity for clarity of mind.
The following theme can be used either for your own personal practice, or for your group classes or one ones that you are teaching. Everything below is just a guide based on my thoughts and experiences in the moment. Feel free to change anything to better suit your teaching/practice style or so that it feels more authentic to you and your own teaching voice. Namasté
Theme: Reset – Recharge
Yoga Sutras of Patanjali 1:1 Now the exposition of Yoga is being made
Physical Focus: reset with twists and recharge with both grounding postures and inversions.
Pranayama: Breath of Fire (Kapalabhati) Use forced short exhales through the nose, allowing your inhales to happen naturally. At the same time, you will feel your diaphragm act like a pump on the exhale. Try rounds of 10 while you build up to 1-2 minutes. Practice seated or standing with legs wide and hands on your thighs.
Yama/Niyama: Saucha – purity, like a spring cleaning
Mudra: Anjali mudra, palms together (mind/body connection)
Mantra: Om Namah Shivaya
I bow to Shiva, my true Self. Shiva is the destroyer of ego so in chanting this mantra we are essentially bowing to the light within. Connecting to who we are outside of all the roles we need to play, free of judgement.
There are a number of different versions of this mantra that I like to include as part of my playlist, here are some artists I love.
Deva Premal, Indiajiva, Donna De Lory, Apache Indian and Steve Gold
