The central point of this theme is crown chakra activation. Our crown chakra, is our connection to the divine. The ability to surrender to the universe, love or a higher power. Spirituality (not religion) plays a strong role in Yoga philosophy and practice, helping on our quest to find a connection to our true Self, the divine within.
The following theme can be used either for your own personal practice, or for your group classes or one on ones that you are teaching. Everything below is just a guide based on my thoughts and experiences in the moment. Feel free to change anything to better suit your teaching/practice style or so that it feels more authentic to you and your own teaching voice. Namasté
Theme: Crown Chakra
Physical Focus: This is a perfect class to practice inversions. Whether forward folds, legs up the wall or working towards headstand. Keeping a meditative quality to all flows, slow and steady.
Chakra: 7th – crown chakra
Niyama: Ishvara Pranidhana – surrender
Mantra: So Ham – I am that
Mudra: Kali Mudra – fingers interlaced, pointer fingers pointing up and together, thumbs crossed.
Less is more for this practice. Limit your cues and make time for silence to allow our students to develop their meditative minds. Give them time to be with their thoughts and move through the process on their own to connect to Self.
Remember: Dhyana (meditative mind) and Samadhi (bliss) can’t be taught, but only experienced. Our job as teachers is to provide this space for our students.
