Class Theme: Joy

What a power, what a gift. Experiencing Joy! This practice is devoted to feeling good inside and out. Please scroll to the bottom for a short meditation you can share with your students for cultivating Joy.

The following theme can be used either for your own personal practice, or for your group classes or one on ones that you are teaching. Everything below is just a guide based on my thoughts and experiences in the moment. Feel free to change anything to better suit your teaching/practice style or so that it feels more authentic to you and your own teaching voice. Namasté

Meditation for Cultivating JOY:

To use either at the start or end of class, or really any time at all!

Let’s bring our attention to our breath, noticing the gentle rise and fall of our chest and belly. Let’s begin to cultivate a sense of ease in our bodies, as we settle into our heart centre. What brings us joy? is there a particular activity we can think of right now, that by even thinking about it we are filled with joy? what about a person or animal? feel free to think of as many different things that you can fit in your mind and heart that create this feeling of joy.

Now pause. Notice what you are feeling: your muscles, your face, your belly. Can you notice that gentle tingly or butterfly sensation that comes from the effect of joy. Can you notice a lightness beginning to wash over you? A new sense of ease? Let’s continue to cultivate this sensation physically as we bring our attention now to our lower belly and hips, down our legs and then back to our heart, our shoulders, neck and jaw. Stay in this space and continue to allow the feeling of joy to grow and manifest. You are joy! You have an endless amount of joy within you waiting to shine and spread and share.

Remember, this power came from YOU! You have the capacity to cultivate Joy whenever you need. You only need to pause, breathe and come back to this feeling now.
